Would You or Wouldn't You?

I am adding new art to my shop.
Some of the paintings will be framed.
I have chosen simple white frames to go in any setting.
Advantage of buying framed art?
It is ready to hang on a wall as soon as it arrives!
You've got to love that!

Here is one of the abstract paintings that is now in my shop.
I was playing with room settings.
Would you or wouldn't you?
What do you think?

Tchin, Tchin...Cheers!

"Tchin, Tchin", Cheers!
For you or a gift for a friend, the sentiment is the same,
"Cheers!".
The painting is saturated with color, the peonies are pink, coral and light orange.
My watercolors involve a multi-step process,
which is finished in gold leaf for an added elegant aesthetic.
Trendy and fun, yet sophisticated and classic.
Unexpected fun!

Peonies in a Vase - Original Watercolor Painting - 12x12

I have taken the photos from several different angles.
Standing directily in front of the painting the gold highlights are very subtle, from an angle the gold catches your eye with glints of light that vary depending on the setting or time of day.

Painting ships in a clear sleeve with a sturdy backing.
Each one is wrapped like a gift, whether it is for you or a friend.
It always feels special opening a pretty package!
Don't you agree?
For clients in the US, shipping is complimentary.

Meet Jana Bek!

Discovering artwork and design elements that
have been styled by an individual in a pretty
 or classic setting,
in a happy, unexpected way inspires me!
Yesterday, I talked about one of the approaches I employ for finding inspiration.
There are many other ways.
Today, I want to introduce a designer that impresses me.
  Meet Jana Bek!
Jana is the interior designer/founder of Bek Design.
She specializes in eDesign Services and Interior Design
via email and phone correspondence
(translation: that means you can live anywhere and still get her help!).
Jana is ardent about collaborating with clients;
 identifying the consummate print,
 palette and layer of styles,
bringing a room to life while balancing their needs.
Jana possesses an ability to mix high and low elements.
She works with her clients incorporating unusual components,
determining where they should invest
and what their priorities should be in refreshing spaces.
She has a gift for introducing unique touches such as a compilation of art
from a fabulous Etsy vendor
 (think gallery wall!)
or suggesting DIY options a client can employ
to update and create versatility for their existing pieces.
Jana is also a regular contributor to
DIY projects for MadebyGirl (check out her shop).
See for yourself, go visit Jana at Bek Design!!

Cobalt September!

Here is a large new painting for my shop,
"Cobalt September".
Saturated with aqua, sapphire blue and lime this large
 watercolor has been painstakingly embellished
 with gold leaf.
My abstracts are a multi-step process
At once both modern and complex,
like masterpieces of antiquity
the gold leaf lends a timeless air to the painting.
The watercolor image changes depending on the time of day and the light.
At some angles the gold is barely discernible
at other times the gold dances and flickers.

The Brass Elephant!

I have had several people ask me where I found my brass elephants.
I literally stumbled over this pair in a thrift shop.
Initially, I thought I would take them home,
spray paint them in a soft white and use one for a ring holder
on my bedside table.
Shh..I heard a gasp!
Yes, I was going to paint them!
I would keep one and give one to my daughter.
Then,
I placed them in a vignette
and now...
I think they are going to stay brass for while.
I found more brass pachyderms on Etsy.
A few, I like better than my own!
Maybe you will find one you like.

Can A Dorm Be Stylish On A Dime?

Here are some fetching ideas for dorm rooms
I have been collecting on Pinterest.
The first room has pretty elements that could easily
be found in a thrift store or consignment shop.
The white mirror, brass lamp, and accessories all full of character.
I love the graphic element behind the cliche' dorm bed.
Notice the covered bulletin board for jewelry.

So, what are some items to be looking for?
1) Vintage finds that will add charm.
2) A cozy rug (hide that dorm floor).
3) Floor pillows for comfort and friends.
4) Paint your cork board.

5) A pallet (Paint it. If you cannot hang it, prop it up)
6) Lots of photos of friends and family, display liberally!

7) Commando Hooks!  Love Commando hooks!
(Hang purses, backpack, hats, pictures, scarves...think outside the box.
8) Keep the bedding simple and take a warm throw,
maybe down...
(that way you can change accessories and change the look).
9) An inexpensive swag light from Ikea adds light and ambience.

I Can See Clearly Now...

I have long been a fan of clear chairs.
My favorite ghost chairs are by Philippe Starck.
I know they are not new on the scene, but
the other day, on the blog,
Design by Mankind,
the transparent chair was featured in
"buttercup" yellow!
I have seen it in color before,
but this time I looked twice.
I did not even know I liked yellow that much!

I have been collecting photos of the transparent chair in a variety of settings.
Personally, I like the chair best,
when paired with the contrast of
opaque furniture.

I must get a clear chair!

I also have discovered I like the idea of color.
If you had to choose a color,
would you be able too?
They are all just so pretty!
